If one wishes to turn their sales people into data entry clerks, then CRM is the ticket to do so. If you think putting in simple contact information is bad, just imagine all the time wasted putting in complex sales opportunities. What used to take about 20 second can take up to an hour (that's 3600 seconds) for inputting one request for quote with multiple line items. CRM is a disaster. But, the upper management who buys these systems and FORCE them upon their salesforce.... well, there is a sucker born every minute ! Excellent article!
